At a special meeting of Amesbury Town Council, members granted the first Freedom of the Town to MOD Boscombe Down.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the formation of the RAF , the special honour was given ‘in recognition of the historical connections with the town’.

“It is to be certified that MOD Boscombe Down is entitled to march through the Town on occasions with drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed.”

Amesbury residents are invited to witness the special event on Sunday, April 8, starting with a military drill in the central car park at 10am. The parade will march through the town at 11am.

Parking in the town is restricted on the day.

More details: The Mayor, Cllr Andrew Williams, 01980 624900.
